Family Oriented High Tech Commuter Town 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( Aug 25, 2019) Antioch is a nice, diverse, quiet, family oriented community. I have been here for 20 years, so I have seen many changes here.
My kids played in the community water park, attended karate and went to the local public schools.

Since it is more affordable bay area town, my wife w
...Read More as able to stay home and help in the PTA and volunteer in the schools. Most of the teachers and administrative staff have been wonderful, even though the schools have had challenges from being impacted by new students in the early 2000's. The Dozier-LIbbey Medical High School is a gem in the Antioch School District. Our child wore scrubs daily, and the Kaiser Hospital next door was very integrated with the school activities. The kids even shadowed doctors to learn about the medical and healthcare professions. They are currently in a healthcare program at university.

Our other child attended Deer Valley High School. They attended a UC School for undergrad and were accepted in Master's programs in an ivy league and other top schools around the country. The dedicated teachers and staff at the local schools were very influential to their later successes. Of course, parent involvement is also an important factor in this team effort.

Since the widening of Highway 4 and the new BART station, I see more people moving into Antioch/Brentwood area. San Francisco and the surrounding areas have an increasing amount of employment options. There has been an increase in restaurants and shopping options in our area. Now San Francisco, Oakland and their airports are accessible by train. Lyft and Uber have been great additions for access. I work in the city, so it's nice to return to our laid back community.

I have enjoy the Mediterranean climate. In winter, the hills are as green as billiard tables. There is fog and misty rain. Summer is dry and can get over 100 for a few days, so the hills turn yellow. The Delta helps cool the area in the evening. We are in between to SF and Sacramento, so many activities are accessible. Locally, I see many people enjoy walking, hiking, barbecuing, bike riding, boating, water sports, etc. The community is very diverse, so you can enjoy international cuisine options.

I have enjoyed living in Antioch and I think the future is bright for the area.

Once a popular mining area for coal and copper, this California city has a rich history. Hiking is allowed in the nearby East Bay Regional Park, where the mines once were. All of the mines have been ...Read More closed down, but there are still a few remnants of days gone by in the city. After the fall of the mining businesses, Antioch never picked up any new booming revenue sources.

Mostly a residential area, Antioch real estate prices are affordable for any income, making it a popular place to live for commuters. You can reach the cities of Sacramento and San Jose in about 75 minutes and San Francisco in about 60 minutes. There are good jobs are to be found in the city itself, but since most of the population work in other areas, Antioch is fairly quiet for most of the day.

Visitors will not find many major attractions in Antioch in addition to hiking trails. Prewett Water Park is a fun aquatic park for kids and families, but that is the extent of exciting entertainment in Antioch. The city is not without great dining, though. Compare Antioch, CA Livability

      vs

      Antioch, CA

Antioch is a community in California's Bay Region that is home to over 100,000 people. The city is located a bit more than one hour from Sacramento, and this easy access to California's capital city is one of the primary reasons that people are attracted to the area. In addition to proximity, Antioch provides residents an opportunity to own or rent a home at a price that is much more affordable than other California cities. While home prices may seem high for anyone moving into California from out of state, the region truly does have some bargains that are hard to find in other large LA cities.

Another reason why people like living in Antioch is that traffic is not a major issue for many on a regular basis. Tri Delta Transit offers some public transportation options in and around the city. San Francisco's BART also has several stations in and around Antioch that can be used for those who commute to the city to work or those who are looking to catch a ride to the San Francisco Giants game.

Top sites in Antioch are all very family focused, and they take advantage of the natural beauty that blesses the area. Black Diamond Mines Regional Park has miles and miles of walking, cycling, and horse trails that are great for those who are looking to get out and exercise. Contra Loma Regional Park is a good place to play tennis, watch a child's baseball game, or take your pet for a walk. Big Break Shoreline is another nature area that gets a lot of use during the spring and fall months. While Antioch does not have unbearably high temperatures in the summertime, most residents might choose to go outside later in the day since the temperatures drop significantly once the sun starts to set.

West Hartley, Deer Valley, and Newlove are some of the most desireable and expensive neighborhoods in the city where those who rent or buy a home are able to access some of the best public schools that the city has to offer. In general, Antioch has a high quality education system that provides children many opportunities to further their education. Antioch offers a wide selection of shopping options from groceries to upscale goods.

If you are looking to rent or buy your first home, Antioch is a market that you will want to give serious consideration. It offers a good lifestyle that is close to Sacramento and its major attractions. Living in Antioch, it is possible to get to Sacramento to watch the Kings play on a Tuesday evening or San Francisco to watch the 49ers play on a Sunday afternoon.
