Bring money if you plan on living here! 1.5 rating By Anonymous ( Feb 22, 2020) I moved here in 2009, the unemployment was high but I found a job. Rentals were everywhere and you could get a 2 bedroom apartment for around 585-600. Ten years later, part time 15 hour a week jobs are everywhere and rent for that same apartment is 2000 dollars and a 3 year wait ...Read More list to get to the top of the list then you must make 3-4 times the rent to qualify. Finding a rental is a nightmare, again jobs , yep there are tons and 90% are part time and if you put in 50 job applications you are lucky 2-3 of them call you back with maybe 1 actually following up for an interview. Traffic is horrid. Getting from east side to west use to take 15 minutes now you are lucky if 40 minutes gets you there. It's growing too quickly for the roads, landscape and city itself. More crime and drugs and you can't go down 3rd street without seeing at least a dozen homeless pushing shopping carts across the roadway and nearly causing accidents. If you are wealthy and able to afford 600-800 thousand for a home or can afford 2000-3000 for a decent apartment and have income or a well paying job then by all means this town is for you. Yes, we have parks, rocks, rivers and all the trendy REI ready equipment you could want to use but it comes at a cost. Trendy restaurants galore and coffee stores nearly on every corner. Bend itself was a wonderful smaller town. It is nothing like it was 10 years ago or even 5 years ago. Your biggest problem is going to be finding a decent full time job (unless you want 5 part time jobs which many do have) and a place to live. Renting a small room in someones home can run you a grand. This place is no longer for the normal person but for the wealthy. Yes, it's full of Californians and with it has come a shift in the towns people and their personality. People are in a hurry, rude and I've even seen disabled people shoved in grocery store lines cause they don't "move fast enough" It's like Los Angeles but with pine trees. Read Less
Not What It Used To Be! 2.5 rating By Anonymous ( Nov 28, 2019) I have been coming to Bend for 15 years and moved here 5 years ago. When I first started visiting it was a wonderful family friendly happy town filled with wonderful people. The events were great and easy to attend, traffic was light and people were polite. Now that has all chang ...Read More ed. There are too many people moving here from states like California and unfortunately have brought those attitudes with them along with drugs and crime which are both out of control here now. You used to watch the local news and rarely was there any crime or bad news. Now that is most of what you hear. It is really sad and now most of the locals that grew up here and especially their kids cannot afford to live here and are moving out. It is a beautiful town but too many people, drugs, homeless and crime now. Okay to visit but living here is not so nice anymore. Read Less
Drug City America 0.5 rating By Anonymous ( Sep 29, 2019) I was born and raised here. This area used to be an amazing little mountain community. Now it is no different then being in central California. The drugs are out of hand here. There are dead bodies showing up all the time now. Its not safe at all to go out downtown anymore. The t ...Read More raffic is crazy. This town wasn't built to handle the amount of people that have flooded in to this area. Sex trafficking is bad here. And forget about buying a house if you are a middle class family. Its sad to see my hometown completely ruined. Top Ten Places to Live 4 rating By FrasierID ( Sep 27, 2019) I get it. My recent visit here was relatively limited and was in some good weather (early-mid September), but I sensed I could move to Bend and be quite happy there. I live in the Mid South (West Tennessee) and have grown tired of the South generally, so my openness to move is ra ...Read More ther high. A lovely, clean place, sized very well with wonderful parks, natural amenities, great restaurants, many shopping choices and seemingly nice people: a lot of nice-looking, though inked young people. As long as you're not a loud-mouth jerk wearing a MAGA hat, you'll be fine. This is Oregon, so not a lot of conservatives like me in the mid and western half of the state, but it's ok, at least for a visit. Lastly, the large number of traffic circles makes driving around a breeze. Read Less

Meth town USA 2 rating By Anonymous ( Feb 06, 2019) Pretty sad now. Moved here in 2005 and after seeing Bend grow, the crime is so much worse! Top ten place to live for a reason! 5 rating By facebookgamer1234 ( Jun 08, 2012) I lived in Bend for 2 years and I doubt I'll ever find as incredible a place as Bend Oregon! Its population and size was PERFECT! Big enough to have great restaurants, parks, shopping, festivals, activities like crazy and yet the city is spread out and arranged to feel small. I ...Read More ts also small enough you don't have city traffic or the city problem of never having any parking downtown. you also don't get the crime of a city. The place is so hopping during all the seasons from snowboarding, movies in the park, farmers markets, concerts, free stuff to do, that people hardly bother traveling! Not only that but its incredibly gorgeous surrounded in mountains, trees, parks and rivers and not far from waterfalls. Even though it snows in the winter, its still a sunny sky over 300 days a year. With all that Vit D pumping everyone in Bend is friendly and very happy and nice to be around. Top all that off with its one of the cheapest places to live I've found. Rent and buying houses is amazing!!!! Read Less
A Few Reasons Why I Relocated to Bend, OR 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( Apr 23, 2012) I have been to many places across the United States. I have to say that I have been to some of the most beautiful and interesting places but no place can truly match the beauty and excitement that Bend, Oregon has to offer.

I am originally from the east coast in South Carolina.
...Read More One of my best friends lives in Bend, Oregon, so I decided to visit her. It was my first time visiting the west coast when I went to Bend, Oregon, and wow, was I amazed. The city of Bend is small; however, it provided a lot of entertainment and activities. One of my favorite places to go while I was in Bend, Oregon was one of the many malls there, the Bend River Promenade. Bend, Oregon also has some of the best restaurants. While I visited Bend, Oregon, my friend and I went to River Rock Grill. At River Rock Grill they had great food (they have an awesome vegetarian menu) and live music.

I liked Bend, Oregon so much that I decided to seek a job there and move away from South Carolina to Bend. So far, I enjoy living here in Bend. The people are friendly, the city itself has a lot of things to do, and I enjoy exploring the hiking trails (there is one I really enjoy located at Pilot Butte State Park) in Bend. Although I do enjoy living here in Bend, I have to say that sometimes the weather is extremely cold in the winter and extremely hot in the summer.
