Used to be better... slowly getting worse. 3 rating By Anonymous ( Nov 29, 2021) Chalmette used to be a better suburb of NOLA. Unfortunately, it's losing any appeal it once had.
The only thing going for it is low property taxes and near New Orleans.
Otherwise-- shopping is a Wal-Mart, a couple grocery stores, and a whole lot of dollar stores.
Nightlife is a b
...Read More unch of bars that only appeal to some. Dining is mostly fast food, with a few gems.
The community used to be much more pleasant... but with a strong conservative base and anti-COVID sentiment-- people are always on edge and angry with everyone/everything.
Crime is rising, mostly drug-related. Sheriff's office is dealing with the drug issues and all that comes with it (carjackings, break-ins, domestic disturbances, DUIs, and so on) that traffic laws are falling off (stop signs and speed limits in residential areas are merely suggestions).
Residents are becoming increasingly trashy. Houses aren't kept well. Lot Next Door program has led to a bunch of empty lots, houses with multiple fenced off lots around it, and houses with huge aluminum covers for their RVs/boats.

To get to the city you must pass through the ninth ward or the east. Neither of which are places you want to go, granted the east will be on the interstate so that's not so bad.
Chalmette drivers are reckless and traffic is just down-right stupid. Chalmette prides themselves on small businesses and community--- but most fail here. People want dollar stores.

Property values are increasing from pop-up modern houses being built by the same couple companies.
You'll likely overpay for a house. But the property tax is very cheap, especially with homestead exemption.

All-in-all... Chalmette is ok if you're willing to leave for most things.
You'll find yourself in Metairie or Slidell for everything. Or online shopping/delivery.
You won't find food, and you're too far for Uber Eats/Doordash in most cases. Read Less
Chalmette Can Do No Wrong 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( May 10, 2018) Oh boy, Chalmette. What can I say about her? I know the times that I have had here will always stick with me forever. I met my first love here, had my first kiss, and even enjoyed watching the ships go up and down the Mississippi as a child.

There is a unanimous decision by my
...Read More family that we will participate in next years downtown function, so be on the lookout for a goofy dad! I know family is important to many living here, and the mighty Mississippi makes you think twice about playing any games.

You must respect nature, and with so much at stake we must begin living better. I can see how important living here would be to one who is invested, but the numbers don't lie and we are doing very well here. Housing is affordable and children are learning faster than we can teach them. Check out Chalmette one day with your family or friends, we welcome all newcomers! Read Less
