No longer a quiet southern town. 2 rating By Anonymous ( Mar 28, 2022) My husband and I moved to the Clemson area 3 years ago thinking it would be a great place to live. My husband's family is from the Anderson area and he graduated from the University in the 1970's. It took me a while to get acclimated as I was not used to a barrage of college stu ...Read More dents wherever I go. Since we have been here, Hwy 123 has become a constant headache. Chick-fil-a backs up traffic going towards Seneca and there is no way around 123. You basically sit at traffic lights any time you go out. Good luck finding a rental if you are not a student. There are a few places; but, be prepared to pay through the nose. My neighbor told me that the University is recruiting out of state students and out of state instructors. One new instructor said that they were recruited for their liberal views. Once the students get here, they manage to get their parents to move down here. As a result, the locals are moving out. Not the place we thought it would be. We will be leaving soon. Read Less
Used to be a lot better 2 rating By Anonymous ( Dec 09, 2019) I've lived in Clemson since I was a student here in the late 1970s and I can honestly say it used to be a great bedroom community to live in. But once the university went from "we will never exceed 10,000 students" to the current 27,000 and on their way to 33,000, things went do ...Read More wnhill fast. The university has expanded but refused to build dorms to house all those extra students, so the town is now overrun with off-campus dorms (read: charge-per-bed apartments). Traffic, as a result, has gotten ridiculous and the free city-wide bus service stops only at places students go (bars and apartments and the grocery stores). So we now have a town overrun with students, no residential public transit, and entertainment/food options that are geared directly to the kids (pizza, mexican, sub shops, fast food). The Brooks Center for the Performing Arts used to bring quality broadway shows into town but has fallen off considerably in the past couple of years, so even that advantage (if you can fight the traffic to get to campus) is gone.

All in all, this has gone from a town you'd encourage people to move into to a town you wonder how you can get out. Read Less
Clemson, SC Living Will Make Anyone Happy! 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( May 23, 2018) My husband and I just passed the 30-year mark of living in Clemson, South Carolina. We have loved every single minute of living here and we can't recommend it highly enough. Some of our friends and family members have taken our advice and moved here over the last few years. Clems ...Read More on is a great little town that has something for everyone. In my humble opinion, it is one of the best areas in South Carolina. We couldn't ask for better neighbors than the ones we have, and all of us share a love for and a pride in our great little town.

Part of what makes Clemson such a great place is the array of entertainment choices and fun things to do. We have the Brooks Center for the Performing Arts, Loose Change music venue, and one of my favorite spots: Sole on the Green for excellent Southern and barbecue food like none you've ever had before. There's also the Elkmont Trap and Cellar Pub for a cool drink and some great food, and Your Pie which has the best pizza, gelato, and beer anywhere! Read Less
