Delta, BC
Delta sits on the south side of the Fraser River directly opposite the city of Richmond. At the very south side of the city is the USA and Boundary Bay, while the Georgia Strait is to the west. Due to all of its surrounding water, it should be of no surprise that Delta has always had a strong fishing community, with the Ladner area still relying on this as a main economic industry. The water also means that there are some spectacular homes that sit right along it, like in the prestigious English Bluff and Boundary Bay neighbourhoods. Still, it is not all about water in Delta, the city is also one of Greater Vancouver’s most important agricultural areas.
Living in Delta is not cheap, but it is less than in other cities in the region. This attracts many commuters that travel by bus or car to Downtown Vancouver. There are bus services within the city itself, though public transportation is not great. Tsawwassen is the best area in terms of transportation and also happens to be the most sought after area of the city to live in. It is also where Delta locals will lead you for parks and recreational activities, as it is home to Diefenbaker Park, Pebble Hill Park and Boundary Bay Regional Park, which is home to the popular Centennial Beach.
Over half of the city’s population lives in North Delta and as a result it has the most schools in the city. It is also home to three recreational facilities, a few major shopping malls and a large amount of green space. It is a great area to live in, especially if you want to raise your family in Delta. Still, any area of the city is great, even Ladner, which predominately attracts fishermen and tourists. Ladner is also home to the George C. Reifel Bird Sanctuary, Westham Island Estate Winery and Wellbrook Winery, all of which are rated as must see places in any Delta guide.
All of the natural beauty and recreation in Delta makes it a fantastic place to live. The quality of life here is pretty good, which is why so many people live in Delta and commute to Victoria or Vancouver for work. It is also quite a diverse city, with its population being made up of people from all over the globe. Plus, it is not a young city, as the median age is higher than the national average at around 41 years old. As well, the median average income here is higher than it is nationwide, which means it is a safe city to live in.
