A sanctuary city 0.5 rating By whitey1 ( Nov 26, 2017) I've lived in the area for 25 years. gaithersburg was never a trendy happening place. At least it had Roy's, Chris's, and the brew station. Totally appropriate for the residents of a sanctuary city. Walking out, the streets were dark, empty, and made me , all 6ft 3, 250 lbs, feel uncomfortable. I grabbed my son and we made a dash for the car. Gaithersburg is an oozing boil on the face of Montgomery county. How could this website rate the schools B+ ??? Gaithersburg High is avoided even by latins of modest means. They're spilling over into the local catholic schools. I haven't been in Gaithersburg for years except driving through on Summit. Just a ...Read More short drive from Washington, D.C., Gaithersburg has no shortage of exciting things to do.

I've often traveled on I-270, a major highway, often referred to as the "beltway" which is a fast route traveling north towards Frederick, MD and South towards Washington. While this route can become congested during workday rush hours, it is a fantastic, non-toll road asset to the community. The recently constructed Inter County Connector is another asset as the roads are less traveled, but speed traps and a somewhat steep toll makes the road somewhat less desirable if you're not in a hurry.

If you want to stay local for dinner, Gaithersburg offers a variety of dining options. Fallsgrove shopping center on Shady Grove road has various options such as Chipotle, Mama Lucia's, Moby Dick's and Krispy Kreme doughnuts. The Kentlands is a charming community full of shops, restaurants, coffee shops, and a movie theater. This is a picturesque community that I've frequented and it is ideal for taking long walks on a beautiful day.

Downtown, historic, Gaithersburg has more cute shops and dining. Nestled here, is Growlers, a super fun local pub that offers food beverages and live music. Special Treasures is a one of a kind historic Gaithersburg shop selling crystals, eclectic jewelry, incense, windchimes and other whimsical treasures.

Overall Gaithersburg is a fantastic, affordable city in Maryland's suburban, metropolitan area. It's a great place to visit, live in and work in. Rest assured, you will not have a shortage in entertainment in this area. Read Less
