Overlooked but Great Small City! 5 rating By Anonymous ( Nov 13, 2024) Gillette is not a place with big-city excitement, but it is a solid and affordable place for families.
The stats show that it is less expensive (to buy or rent) than the national average, safer than the national average, has much lower unemployment and much higher wages. No stat

Summers are great, but it does get cold in the winter, although not as much snow to shovel as places farther east. It has a small airport with flights to Denver and is right on the interstate for easy access to booming (and much more expensive) Rapid City. Only thing missing is a Costco, but still plenty of good shopping options. Read Less
Best of both wrolds 4.5 rating By Anonymous ( Apr 26, 2024) Not sure why the people relying to the negative comments with positive comments don't make their own reviews.
Gillette has the same problems that similarly-sized towns and cities in this region have: difficulty attracting good teachers, doctors, etc. Plus, some low-level proper

If there were, it would be Jackson, which nobody wants to see. Gillette is the third-larges city in the state, and has much more to offer then Jackson has, and it is the last bastion of affordability in the West. The average household earns enough to buy the average home in less than 4 years ($93.5K is the median household income, and the median home price is $312K). You cannot find that anywhere else west of the Mississippi. And for this price, you are getting a house, not a condo, like in big cities. And most houses are built in the past few decades, not like in older cities farther east, like Minneapolis or KCMO.
Politically, it's live-and-let live as most of the mountain west, but with a friendly Midwest element that you won't find as much if you go any farther west. To me, it's the bets of both worlds - Midwest cost of living with a Western frontier feel. Read Less

Gillette: A Beautiful Midwest City 4 rating By Anonymous ( May 14, 2018) I've been living in Gillette for about a year so far. Gillette is a beautiful small city, far enough away from any from any major city that it has a genuine country feel to it. Finding a job here isn't particularly difficult, but you might not have a lot of high paying jobs to ch ...Read More oose from, either. There's a decent selection of stores to choose from, including a Walmart Supercenter that should cover most of your needs.

One of the best areas in Gillette is McManamen Park to the north. It has a big lake in the middle and is a beautiful place to take your dog or spend some time with friends. Summer weather is usually pretty mild and tops out in the 60s or 70s. There are usually farmers markets during the summer, as well as some parades and local festivals too. Overall, it's a relaxing city that I do enjoy living in very much. Read Less
