These days it seems like the cost of real estate is spiraling out of control, especially in larger real estate markets like New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. With that being said, there are some hidden gems where home prices are fairly low and median income is fairly high.

Here are the top 10 most affordable real estate markets in America with a population of at least 200,000. To find the most affordable cities in America, we looked at the median home value to median household income ratio. The lower the ratio, the more affordable the real estate is in that particular city. Of course, there are many other factors that determine if a city offers affordable real estate, these might include cost of living (goods/services, groceries, health care, transportation, utilities) as well as income and sales tax. The infographic also displays relative monthly mortgage payments for each of the cities so that the actual cost of housing is displayed for each of the 10 cities.
