what happen to manchester 2 rating By cvrgrl ( Aug 18, 2015) Manchester used to be a great place to live now it is corrupt with drugs and crime. the police are everywhere and its not safe. I have been gone a year and when i went to visit it looked dirty and the areas that were once nice are dirty with drugs and crime. the outside community ...Read More are still nice but manchester is a small town with big city problems now even there local Facebook page is all off arrest of kids on drugs made up gangs and violence. hopefully the community get together and rid manchester of this wave of disaster. what was once a great place to live and raise kids and not sure about that anymore Read Less
Manchester, NH - The City of a Lifetime 4.5 rating By Anonymous ( May 20, 2010) On my way to Canada, I had the distinction to stay two days in the city of Manchester, NH. I call it distinction because I really loved those two days during fall foliage. Manchester is the largest city in North New England but it has exquisitely preserved its small town nature. ...Read More The roads leading to downtown, which is the center of all activity, still offer a sensation of driving through a countryside in the 1970's.

A local bartender in Manchster told me that locals take Sports more seriously than many outsiders would think. That's why, there is a lot of tension even when smaller teams play at the famous Version Wireless Arena. He was also quick to point out many that Manchester has many attractions nearby. Although, I couldn't remember the name but there was a very nice boutique hotel by a lake, just two blocks away from my own excellent small hotel. It seems that there a plentiful boutique lodgings which would provide a good place to stay for those who wish to evaluate Manchester, before moving in. Interestingly, downtown Manchester has some excellent shopping, restaurants and attractions. Also I read somewhere that Manchster is consistently rated as the best place to live in by many authoritative media publications. After my two days, I dare not disagree. Bottom line, I really enjoyed my stay in Manchester! Read Less

Compare Manchester, NH Livability

      vs

      Manchester, NH

Manchester is the largest city in the state of New Hampshire and, in fact, all of northern New England. Its population is just above 100,000 people, which is well below many cities in the United States but still enough to make it an important location on the East Coast. Indeed, one of the biggest benefits of its small size is that it is one of the cheapest cities to live in in the entire United States. This has drawn many people into the area over the past few decades and it is an excellent option for those interested in modern conveniences but also a friendly rural environment.

Manchester's largest employer is by far the service industry. Some of the biggest companies are Elliot Hospital, Southern New Hampshire University and Eversource Energy. The local economy is continuously growing and it has undergone many changes throughout the past few years. This offers plenty of opportunities for all kinds of different workers.

For those looking to start or relocate a family, Manchester has great public schools and almost all of the neighborhoods are very safe. In terms of higher education, Manchester is home to Southern New Hampshire University and Manchester Community College, both of which also employ a large number of people. The city also has plenty of parks and monuments to enjoy, including a Spanish-American war monument and Livingston Park. Those interested in shopping can find lots of options at The Mall of New Hampshire and Manchester Commons Shopping Center.

The cost of living in Manchester is, as previously mentioned, low relative to its size, with the average rent being only around $1,000. Parking is cheap and easily accessible, which also helps with the cost. The only issue with Manchester's low cost of living is the minimum wage, which is currently the same as the federal rate of $7.25. This shows no sign of increasing in the near term and so it would be best to have a good education or high paying job to make ends meet in this area.

Public transportation is available, but buses are the only option and the city is not known for this. A car is likely the best way to get around here and the low cost of parking and gasoline makes them even more beneficial.

Manchester is a great up-and-coming city in Northern New England and it will likely continue to grow. People coming from small towns will find the transition to life here very easy and those living in larger cities will find the lifestyle very relaxed. Locals are sure to welcome any new residents with open arms and the small town vibe makes this an excellent option for families and individuals alike.
