I have lived here nearly 4 years after moving from across the country. I didn't know what to expect when I moved here with my children. The education system was the first thing I noticed was a misrepresentation from the locals. It absolutely under-performs compared to the rest of ...Read More
the state and instead of the superintendent putting money into the students and the faculty, they put it into their salary. Enough about that... Next, I noticed that the people here are not friendly whatsoever and really pop off with that middle-class person snotty (I don't even know the average income here, I'm assuming middle class). There is no sense of community here, it is who you know. My kids played sports in a 6A school on the east coast and we went from being a starter and being looked at by recruiters, to sitting on the bench because we don't adhere to the thought of bribing the coaches with dinner and a check. By the way, my oldest did get a 100% full-ride scholarship. That would have been something of stature for the school here to have sent off a player to an NCAA school based on their coaching. OOPS! I don't have anything good to say about McPherson. It's a little town trying to be big.

I have loved McPherson since the first time I visited. I always referred to it as Mayberry. Of course, no place is really like Mayberry and McPherson is certainly not perfect. I'm sure there are issues here like any other town, crime, poverty, etc. However, the town does have ...Read More
a vibrant downtown (unusual in small towns today), beautiful parks (Lakeside is my favorite) and a good number of restaurants. There is one thing I have noticed in McPherson lately that bothers me. People don't seem to be as friendly and there seems to be a bit of a snooty attitude...not sure why folks in McPherson would be snooty, but it's there and it is not very becoming of such a "friendly" town. I also get the sense that McPherson is trying to be something it's not (big city, cosmopolitan, highbrow). McPherson is a small, largely agricultural and blue-collar town and that is nothing to be ashamed of, in fact I think it's something to be proud of. McPherson should embrace who it is and stop trying to be all things to all people because in the end it will be nothing to anyone.
