Mildred, TX Lifestyle 4 rating By Courvo ( Aug 16, 2017) Mildred is great community for owning a home in a safe rural community. What Mildred does not offer is nightlife, dinning and a shopping experience. With a population of 359 (2016 est.) most residents live on rural gravel roads (maintained by Navarro County) with small acreage h ...Read More omesites. Since Mildred is sited next to Richland-Chambers Lake ( the third largest inland reservoir by surface area and the 8th largest reservoir by water volume in Texas) it has great fishing and boating but is the most ignored and underutilised lake in Texas. The lake is virtually deserted throughout the year and provides limited public launch sites but gas and food is located next to the lake on hwy 287. One of the Issues I have with "areavibes" is how they estimate the crime rate in Mildred. Since few sites break out the crime rate for Mildred directly, (using Corsicana, TX crime rates since Mildred shares the Corsicana 75109 Zip Code) it appears Mildred has a high crime rate of (D). Based my research and discussions with a number of Navarro County Sheriff's living within our community, Mildred should be ranked as one of the safest areas in Texas. Based on the last 10 years, I and others are not aware of any crime wave, major issue or threats to our homes that would justify this rating. Other than escape horses and cattle running through your property, residents in our community are heavily armed and aware of strangers who come into the rural community. Another issue is the rating of (D+) for education. Here are the latest ratings for Mildred ISD (Mildred ISD Corsicana, TX)Total students, 714 Students ( per teacher 12.2 Statewide: 15.2 Avg.) (teacher experience 10.2 years Statewide: 10.9 years) (Four-year graduation rate 93.9% versus Statewide: 89%). Mildred ISD does not deserve this rating. Other contributing factors that recommend Mildred is the excellent Navarro County Sheriff oversight, Corsicana Fire and Paramedic Service, Mildred/Eureka Volunteer Fire and local Air Ambulance Services. What Mildred lacks in other areas, is it location 9 miles east of Corsicana, TX on hwy 287 providing every service that you can imagine. Where many small TX communities suffer from various environmental issues and support services, Mildred is blessed with excellent Rural Water , Wireless Broadband and a community that values its quiet and peaceful environment ( unless sounds of Coyotes, Owls and Bull Frog's scare you). Mildred is a hidden gem, what's not to like about this place in raising a family or setting down roots. Read Less
