Great meals a Modesto Elks 1282 4 rating By MoBrock ( Aug 02, 2015) My organization Beta Sigma Phi had their monthly brunch at Modesto Elks 1282. The food and service was great. The chicken and pork were most, tender and hot. The sides (potatoes, salad, fruit and veggies were great. There were over 244 people there and I don't think anyone was ...Read More unhappy with the meal. The chief did a outstanding job.

The hall was arranged so we could walk and staff were johnny on the spot with water and ice tea.

Afterwards, since my husband and I are members we when to the lounge where we were waited on by Meg, one of their friendly bar tenders. Read Less
Modesto, CA - On the Way to Everything 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( May 05, 2010) As a former resident of California's Central Valley, my travels have taken me through Modesto countless times. Although the city of Modesto started out as a small regional center serving the farming industry, called "Moo-desto" by city folk, it has grown into a far-flung suburb, ...Read More serving commuters to jobs in Silicon Valley and in the eastern suburbs of San Francisco.

Modesto has become a small city filled with newer subdivisions and strip malls, falling mostly to the east of Highway 99, described by some as California's Main Street. Although Modesto is gradually merging with Manteca to the north and Turlock to the south, there is still a great deal of agriculture surrounding the city. To the east are the lakes and historical towns of the Sierra foothills, and beyond that is the crown jewel of the nation's park system, Yosemite. San Francisco sits 90 miles to the west.

Like many cities in California, Modesto is neat, clean, pleasant and surrounded by great entertainment and attractions. Modesto serves as a gateway to most of Northern California and offers an excellent quality of living. Read Less

      Modesto, CA

Modesto is one of the twenty largest cities in California with a population that exceeds 200,000 residents. Life in Modesto is quiet, and its residents like it that way. The city was founded in 1870, and it has chosen to have a peanut as the mascot for one of its local baseball teams. DOMO, or downtown Modesto for those who are in the know, is the area of the city where you are most likely to find great dining and interesting shopping. It is also where the nightlife is located for those who are looking to unwind.

Agriculture plays an important role in the city's economy, and Stanislaus Farm Supply is one of the leading employers in the area. The store sells famers all of the seed and supplies that they need to grow the city's major crops. Crystal Creamery is another large employer that runs a large dairy operation. The city's public school system rounds out the top employers in the area. Many of the city's residents work in Stockton, California, which is one of the neighboring cities to Modesto.

One of the main calling cards of Modesto is a very low cost of living compared with other cities of its size in the state. Home prices in the area are significantly lower than other parts of California allowing more first time homebuyers to make this major purchase. Those who are looking to buy or rent a home in Modesto often look in Shackleford, Monterey Park Tract, Cowan Tract, or Aurora. Each of these areas of town offer nice housing, easy access to the city's top sites, and nice amenities.

The Modesto Area Express offers affordable and reliable public transit options for those who do not own a car or choose to leave it at home in the garage. Checking their timetables and fares is simple from their website or their mobile application.

Residents love to get out and explore on the Tuolumne River. The trail that runs along the side of the river is a great place to go for an evening stroll or easy bike ride. Many families make this a tradition that they repeat a couple of times during the week. Funworks Modesto is an 18-acre indoor amusement park that lets children run wild and have a good time while parents enjoyed the forced air conditioning being blown into the park. It is a great place to spend a few hours each week to help your children work out the wiggles and tire themselves out.
