Please Avoid Muncie 1.5 rating By Anonymous ( Sep 01, 2024) It’s important to note that I lived in Muncie from September 2020 to October 2023. I never attended Ball State, I lived and worked in the notorious Southside Muncie. I had lived in four vastly different cities and towns prior with populations ranging from 600 to 6 Million. I ab ...Read More solutely HATED, DETESTED AND LOATHED living in Muncie. A charmless, disgusting wasteland full of people whining about the “good old days.” For context, Muncie used to have a thriving working class with numerous manufacturing jobs that have since gone oversees, and as others have noted - Ball State is the only thing keeping the city afloat. Drugs, crime, and abuse of all kinds have taken its place. I lived there with my husband, and thank GOD we didn’t have any children during that time. The only thing I can say positively about Muncie is the cost of living is cheap, because nobody wants to live there - and as a mixed race couple, I can say we actually weren’t treated with any racism or bad bias. Other than that, the north side of Muncie is barely safer than southside, and whether it’s a local place or a chain, the restaurants leave a lot to be desired. Seriously, AVOID Muncie. I never felt safe regardless of where I went in Muncie. It’s a pathetic has-been rust belt town that needs to be demolished. Read Less
Ball State University is holding this city apart 2 rating By Anonymous ( Jul 11, 2021) I lived for several years in Muncie, as a student at Ball State University. My overall impression of the city is, if you're a student and mainly stick around campus and the north side, you should be fine. South side Muncie is where all the drugs are. Muncie arguably has the highe ...Read More st concentration of meth labs out of any city in Indiana, the majority of these are in the south side. Some parts honestly look like a 3rd world country. Muncie is the only city I've ever lived where I had to worry about crime. Lots of thefts take place in this city. If you park your car outside, always make sure it is locked. Oh, and the city is very slow to respond to the numerous potholes littering the city. Muncie has the most corrupt politicians out of any city I have ever lived.

Muncie is a great place for college students. Lots of bars and restaurants near campus and downtown. I had a lot of fun when I was a college student there. The university is about the only thing keeping this city alive. If ball state were to ever move, the city would crumble fast. There is a notable contrast between the university students/employees and "mocals" (a term used by college students to refer to Muncie locals). The mocals were often poor redneck types. I've had many encounters where they get really aggressive with me.

My overall diagnosis of Muncie is, if you're a young person, you will have a lot of fun here. This is certainly no place I would ever want to raise a family. Come for Ball State University, I think it is a really good school. Once you get your diploma, leave. Read Less
Cheap living, good drivers, overflowing with shopping opportunities 0.5 rating By Anonymous BSU ( Sep 11, 2013) Cheap, safety is an 8 out of 10. The local government is abusive and fines a lot. The police have their horrible downs to mediocre. Why I gave Muncie a low score is because of the sexism and ridiculous Redneck vibe here. Muncie is filled with retirees and poor families. The birth ...Read More rate is officially double the US rate. Muncie is the most sexist place I have lived in. As a woman it absolutely is dangerous to be seen and I am harassed where ever I am, even in my front or back yard. It is disgusting. The only progressively living element of Muncie is Ball State University. The students live completely separate from the town. The vibe here created by the residents is sexist raccoon eating Rednecks living their self identified pioneer life in the 18th century.

The negatives are there as I have described above, but overall it's OK if you are desperate for cheap living. As long as I am not seen I will be alright. Two Walmart and a lot more shopping, it keeps your spirits a bit up after gaining weight because you can't go anywhere as a woman. Read Less
Muncie, IN - Good Music Scene and Great Food 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( Aug 05, 2010) I have lived in Indiana for my entire life and traveled to Muncie, IN numerous times during the past six years. It has a typical mid-sized Indiana city feel, with the population consisting mostly of working class Americans. Muncie, IN has Ball State University, which is known for ...Read More its entrepreneurship, broadcasting, landscape architecture, music technology, music education and video production programs as well as having a reputation as a party school. During the regular academic year, the city is filled with students; in the summer, the city quiets down a bit, with many of the out-of-town students returning home.

During the summer of 2009, I spent five days in Muncie, exploring the various attractions throughout the city. While in Muncie, I went to Blue Bottle incorporated, a coffee shop with a relaxed atmosphere and excellent food located near campus on Walnut St. I also went to Greeks Pizzeria, which has a large selection of gourmet pizza. I had the gourmet house pizza, which included meatballs, black olives, a touch of onions and feta and other cheese; the taste of the pizza was amazing. Near the downtown area are a lot of bars that frequently have live music, ranging from blues to metal. Read Less
