Up And Coming Faster than the speed of light 4 rating By Anonymous ( Apr 20, 2021) I read a review on here that gave this neighborhood a terrible review, but they also mentioned that they lived here in 2016. I do not know how it was 5 years ago, but the last 2 years have been decent. I bought a house in 2019, and it was 1/5 homes that were recently renovated in ...Read More the area. Other than the occasional speeder its not a bad area. Not to mention, they're preparing to install speed bumps on that street. Just to give some insight, the homes are being rennovated extreamly fast. Target is in walking distance, as is the lightrail stop. This is especially cool if you're into downtown festivites without the worry of driving, or paying an expensive uber ride.

It is located just east of the 17, and away from the trashy area. It is close (unfortunatley) but the ghetto, for the most part, has moved west of the i17.

I ride my bike around the neighboorhood, take my dog for a walk with my 6 year old daughter in the evenings without worry of crime.

Heres how I justify my rating:

Attractions: it is 5/10. This is because there is not much that is walk-able distance, however; a few miles in each direction and you can find beautiful parks, good places to eat, and the i17 is easily accessable, as is the 51.

Community: 5/10 Although I have established relationships with close neighbors, there does not seem to be a huge push for commuity meetings, improvements, and discussions about the future of the neighborhood. (Typical with any non- HOA)

Nightlife: 10/10 Honestly, if you're a nightowl, this is prime realestate. a 5 minute drive to downtown and you have the entire city at your disposal for night life. Lightrail access is right there, and you can hit downdown or central street for any 21+ activites you enjoy.

Dining: 10/10 Same thing as the nightlife, Lots of diverse cusine; anything from a greesy spoon, to a plant based concept.

Shopping: 7/10 Target is a convienient option, unfortunatley, they just closed the costco that was neighboring Target. There is a walmart, big 5, and a ross in the same lot. So thats decent. Closest 'nice' Mall is the scottsdale fashion mall, and that is about a 15 minute drive .

Don’t Move Here! 1 rating By Anonymous ( Feb 14, 2020) I don’t know how old the reviews on here are or why the people chose to be so nice about them, but in all honesty this neighborhood is worse than Compton in California. It makes Compton look like a friendly place for outsiders.

We lived here from 2016-2019 do to financial rea
...Read More sons and I regret every minute of it. Every apartment complex in this area has bedbugs and roaches. All of them. Not just one complex or building, they all do. Rent is absolutely horrendous considering places here barely meet the standard of “livable”. And that’s not even the bad part.

The school system rating on here is a lie. There is no way the average is 70 anything because none of the kids learn anything. Most 3rd graders I’ve met here don’t even know how to do simple math problems without extreme amounts of hinting. Teachers will fudge grades so they don’t have to teach and both schools for this district allow bullying to the point some children attempt suicide. Your child will learn absolutely nothing and it’s better to pull them out of the system and homeschool which is the only easy thing to do here. Schools have been shut down so to poor performance and child neglect.

I’ve personally have been mugged twice in this area, harassed multiple times, and we’ve had a burglary attempt on our apartment. Not to mention the normal day to day things like police helicopters chasing armed gunmen and criminals down the street and into apartment complexes (great idea jerks) on a nightly basis. The police helicopters go over the area every single day of the year, sometimes 4 times a day, and it’s never just to be safe it’s always because something is going wrong or there is yet another criminal. The crime rate for this neighborhood seems seriously low compared to what it actually is. I’m guessing corrupt police and some citizens aren’t reporting a good bit of the crimes.

If you’re looking for sex offenders, this neighborhood is where most of them live. Don’t let your children outside or they will be harassed either by someone selling drugs or a pedophile. Not to mention the homeless population here is huge.

There are no viable job opportunities in this area. Your only option are minimum wage and low paying jobs that are full already 90% of the time. Going to the next neighborhood isn’t any better. My husband and I worked at the restaurants on the corner of the area and both witnessed multiple crimes per day. The homeless population lives around here and makes dining uncomfortable for people. I usually saw cops run down and jump people, sometimes armed, at least once a week on my opening shift. My husband has had to deal with a robbery at his place of work as well.

Not to mention all hotels in the area are used for prostitution. But that’s a petty crime compared to most of the crap that goes on.

There is no sense of community here but I wouldn’t expect there to be with how on edge everyone probably is. Neighbors will steal your doormat if they decide they want it and put it outside their door with no shame. I’m pretty sure the majority of people living in this area do so because they didn’t look into it first or are criminals. We got stuck here because of credit, but found out we could move to California and pay the SAME for rent minus all the bad things.

So, to sum things up, bed bugs, shootings, robberies, child neglect by schools, and angry thieves is what this neighborhood is made of. Arizona as a whole is pretty much a joke so if you’re not in the state, don’t waste your time. My husband is an Arizona native and he didn’t understand how bad it was living there until we moved. He’d never go back if you paid him to now. Read Less
Life in Alahambra, Phoenix 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( Sep 11, 2012) Like many of the sections of Phoenix, Arizona, Alahambra is a neighborhood that is generally a safe, spacious, and nice place to live. Those that are interested in moving to Alahambra can expect to find a well maintained community that caters towards those interested in living a family oriented lifestyle. The neighborhoods are safe. Plenty of schools, religious institutions, and locations within the community exist for those seeking a lifestyle that will allow their children to be sheltered. The shopping, nightlife, and restaurants are nice, and they are typically not too outlandish or extravagant. If someone wants to live in Alahambra and is the type of person that can live without the kinds of attractions, pleasures, and adult freedoms that make cities in surrounding states thrilling places to visit, then moving to Alahambra won't necessarily mean any kind of loss of quality of life.

For adults who are accustomed to living their lives in cities like Las Vegas and Los Angeles that offer more open opportunities for adult entertainment and excitement, Alahambra is likely to seem a little drab, something of a bore, and somewhat less free. One of the things I noticed right way was the reality that the public transportation in Alahambra, like other parts of Phoenix, Arizona, seemed to sometimes be lacking with regards to efficiency and reliability. Most people accustomed to relying on their own vehicles might not mind that, but it can be quite a nuisance for those who are accustomed to using public transportation. Standing out in the glowering summer heat in this part of the country in order to wait for a bus or taxicab can be a real ordeal, and the slower pace of things can be stifling. Read Less
