Northeast Raleigh, NC Neighborhood Review 4 rating By Anonymous ( Jun 10, 2014) While I was in college, I lived in the northeast Raleigh area. It is one of the busiest areas I have lived in, but I wouldn't have traded it for anything. My apartment building was very quiet, and I was able to keep my dog with me instead of leaving him at home. There are some ap ...Read More artment complexes I found that don't allow pets. Not only was I close to my college campus, but I was also within a short distance of numerous shopping centers, attractions and historical buildings. I think the best thing I liked about living in Raleigh was being so close to the Capitol Building and the museums. My favorite museum is the Ava Gardner Museum. Although it is somewhat smaller than the Science and History Museums, there are spectacular pieces in the building. You can learn about the life of Ava Gardner just by walking through a few exhibits, and since I majored in arts, this was the perfect place to go on the weekend.

Weekends in Raleigh can get interesting. The best time to live there is during basketball season. I saw several games between teams like Duke, NC State, Chapel Hill and Wake Forest. However, you should know that the hotels will get crowded, especially if it's a tournament weekend. I tended to stay in my apartment so that I wouldn't have to deal with the traffic and noise.

The abundance of restaurants was overwhelming at first, but once you figure out which ones serve the best food and which ones you should avoid, it's a little easier. Seafood is a big thing in Raleigh as it's close to the coast of North Carolina. The 42nd Street Oyster Bar is by far my favorite place to go, even when I go back to the city to visit. There is an extensive bar with seafood of all kinds, but I usually order off the menu because I like the platter with oysters and scallops. The Pit is a popular BBQ destination for college students as it's inexpensive, and the food is delicious. Other benefits to living in Raleigh are the numerous concerts that are held and the street fairs. Read Less
