Rural Minnesota Along the Mississippi 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( May 16, 2018) Red Wing, Minnesota is a small city just a few hours southeast of Minneapolis. The city shares a border with Wisconsin along the Mississippi River. Red Wing was once more of a thriving small town with a rich sense of family and community, however, that has declined in recent year ...Read More s with outsourcing of local jobs and a deteriorating infrastructure. The public school system in Red Wing is also on the decline with funding not being available to secure adequate facilities for students to learn.

The housing market in Red Wing also leaves something to be desired. Many of the homeowners in the area have either sold their houses or are renting them out to lower income families which is unfortunately a recipe for a declining neighborhood. Red Wing doesn't have much going on as far as shopping, dining or nightlife, and is too far away from the twin cities to consider it to be close enough to the city to enjoy it's benefits on a daily basis.

Overall, Red Wing is a decent community and on a positive note is in a beautiful area of the country. However, if you're looking to raise a family and not compromise on the benefits of the city, you're better off spending a little more money and moving closer to the twin cities. Read Less
