Beautiful, small town with big town amenities 5 rating By Anonymous ( Oct 10, 2020) I've lived here for three years and I'm impressed that a town of only 6,000 residence has this breadth of shopping and dining. There are two malls (outlet mall on the highway and carousel mall downtown), multiple small businesses with lots of variety, and food options including T ...Read More hai, Mexican, Chinese, Lebanese, American, seafood, and so much more. Being only an hour and half from Portland the town attracts tourism year around, which keeps businesses open all year, with only a few choosing to have reduced hours. The relative close proximity to Portland also means state of the art medical treatment and access to international flights is within an easy commute. The community just spent millions of dollars on a state of the art school built above the tsunami zone, and lots of community resources have been spent on developing infrastructure and safety for all residents and visitors. The natural beauty of the area is unparalleled where the forest, mountains, and beach all come together in breath-taking scenery. The weather is extremely mild staying cool year around with winter days staying in the low 50s and summer days in the high 60s to low 70s. I was surprised when I moved here that there wasn't more rain. I was fully anticipating every day, all day for months on end to be raining, but it's not like that at all. It will rain in the winter and spring most days, but it will stop for several hours at a time, allowing plenty of time to go for a walk without getting soaked. The summer and fall make all the rain worth it, with everything staying green and balmy all season long. Like all communities, it does have struggles such as housing. Home prices and rent prices are astronomical considering most of the jobs available are low to mid paying hospitality jobs, there really needs to be more affordable housing options. Also, there are drug use and homelessness issues here as well, that many in local government are working to address. Overall, I feel safe walking downtown or along the beach promenade alone in the evening. Seaside is a great community! Read Less
Seaside is an expensive place to try and live 1 rating By Betty Rubble ( Dec 04, 2017) After reading the review of Seaside, Oregon, I had add the reality check. This is a tourist town. Jobs are seasonal, low paying and scarce in the off season. It rains a lot in the fall, winter and spring. Rents are outrageous and most places are very small and mostly dumps. Shopp ...Read More ing is VERY limited. One has to drive to Warrenton or Astoria to get any variety in shops. Many local shops close after the summer season ends - again this is a tourist town. It is a difficult place to live in full time. If you are retired and can afford a house here, you will do fine. Just be prepared for the rain and wind during the fall and winter. Read Less
