What I've noticed living here for 10 years 2 rating By Wondergal ( Oct 06, 2018) A medium sized city adjacent to the McKenzie River in mid Western Oregon. the pros would be close to a good mall with lots of shopping and easy freeway access, lower rent compared to the other mid Willamette Valley Cities, and they have tried to clean up the area by not allowing ...Read More panhandlers on the streets. The schools in this area need a lot of work, and there is a very present meth and heroin problem, unfortunately been over 20 overdoses on the news in 3 days, this is not usual but it does highlight some of the problems that we have for not being a very large city. The pollen allergies can be very bad for many and I've known a lot of people that actually need to be hospitalized. Very high poverty area, there are a few Mill jobs here in Springfield and most of the other jobs are either with the schools, the hospital or in retail or a restaurant many people go to Eugene to find work which is just over the river. It is considerably gloomy and gray between usually around early to mid October through April, some years it doesn't really start getting nice until the beginning of July and then the last few years intense hazardous smoke fills the air starting around mid August so you really only have typically about two months of Summer where you can actually get out and enjoy the weather. It does not get considerably cold or considerably hot here but through the spring winter and fall there is a high number of humid days which can make it feel considerably colder. Read Less
Rain Makes You Go Shopping in Springfield, OR 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( Apr 23, 2012) I moved to Springfield, OR after living on the east coast for ten years. When I got to the west coast, I was a little shocked at the difference in weather, but I have been here for two years now and love it. It does rain a little more than I am used to, but that just means I go s ...Read More hopping in several of the local towns. Camping is one of my favorite things to do in Springfield. There are numerous sites that I have been to that are in the woods. The mountain ranges in the distance when I go to Mt. Hood take my breath away. Try to go in the summer so it is warmer.

When it is too cold to camp, I enjoy going to some of the culinary restaurants. There are a few coffee shops that have book stores in them as well. It is great being able to read a good book while drinking an espresso or cappuccino. If you enjoy wine, then Oregon is the place to go. Several of the wine distilleries offer tours so that you can see how the wine is made. All the history lovers will enjoy touring the museums all across Oregon. There are even some Ghost Towns in Auburn and Bourne.

One of the things that will take getting acclimated to when you go to Springfield is the weather. Be sure to pack plenty of things to do while you are inside your home or office, or plan to spend a day or two looking at the shops. Read Less
