Lowest scores are in incomes, jobs & businesses. But I don't see any effort by City controllers to bring & encourage new business or housing into this area. It's not surprising that the population is decreasing or at best, flat. Unimployment is high and the homeless rate is stea ...Read More
dily rising.
Now oddly, the Crime rate scores, an A- , but Yellville has a brand new jail, even though I think it was voted down, I could be wrong, during elections. The amount of police officers employed has risen immensely, along with patrol cars, equipment and the cost that goes with it. Without any change in population, I'm really curious of what the ratio of police per citizen, actually is? Also, how that compares with Arkansas and other cities or States.
I moved to Yellville in 1984, when the population was more then, than the 2010 census reported. It seemed like a nice place to raise kids, lots of Churches, clean air and no crime to speak of. I was concerned about volunteer fire depts and no paramedics or a ambulance close. But the police force was: Rodger Anderson, Jim Carr, Mike Anderson, his deputy Mike Moffitt, and I suppose there was a jailer & a secretary, probably a couple of Marion Co. HWY patrols. But they were all friendly and did their jobs well, and it was an amount you could get to know personally.
I'd hoped the town would grow some. But we didn't get Walmart, or a stop light. Shirt factories closed. I think we use to have a hospital ??
I hope the City Planners or whoever makes decisions, will take a hard look to see what Yellville really needs to make it a better, prosperous town other than tickets and fines. There seems to be more people involved with drugs and alcohol now. But there is no clinic or rehab facility to help with this. Jail doesn't create sobriety. Priorities need to change. I'm glad we still have Turkey Trott!
