Small City Living without Urban Hassle 3 rating By Anonymous ( May 16, 2018) Zanesville, Ohio is a small city located a few hours east of Columbus. It can be described as not quite a small town, but also not a big city. The economy of Zanesville will leave you wanting more as jobs are hard to come by. The downtown Putnam area is full of deteriorating one- ...Read More way streets and old buildings. Crime is becoming more of a problem each year and the police do not really seem to be doing anything about it. Low employment prospects and increase in rental properties are unfortunately the recipe for a city in decline.

The city is decently culturally diverse, although nothing comparable to other cities in Ohio like Columbus, Dayton, or Toledo. The housing market within the city is in decline as well even with property taxes remaining reasonable. The economy is very slow in this area and will continue to be slow unless more manufacturing and skilled labor jobs are created.

Overall, Zanesville is a decent option for those who don't require gainful employment and are looking for something cheap. The city is not for everyone, however, and you may be better off and happier spending a few extra bucks and heading west to Columbus. Read Less
